Qi2 : The Next-Generation Wireless Charging Standard
1. What is Qi2?
Qi2 is the next-generation wireless charging standard introduced by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). This new standard integrates the Magnetic Power Protocol (MPP), which is based on Apple's MagSafe magnetic charging technology, into the Qi wireless charging system. Compared to Basic Power Protocol (BPP) and Extended Power Protocol (EPP), the biggest advantage of MPP is the addition of a magnetic alignment mechanism, ensuring precise positioning, faster charging speeds, higher efficiency, and greater convenience.
On April 19, 2023, WPC officially released the Qi2 enhanced wireless charging standard. Built on Apple's Magnetic Power Profile, this new standard aims to deliver a better wireless charging experience while laying the groundwork for future innovations and enhanced features.
